Jyane Quek has been elevated at Standard Chartered as global head of planning and effectiveness, corporate affairs, brand and marketing, and global head of marketing strategy for wealth and retail banking. Before the stint at Standard Chartered, Quek was head of creative engagement APAC, global creative works, global clients and agency solutions at Google.
Warner Bros Discovery's senior vice president of marketing for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, Daniel Tan, will be stepping down from this role by the end of January. He will continue to support the organisation until March 31, 2025, as the company recruits a successor for the position. Tan joined Warner Bros Discovery in 2021 as vice president of growth marketing and streaming in APAC. He was SVP in 2023. Prior to that, he spent eight years at The Walt Disney Company, where he was head of marketing for Disney+ in Southeast Asia.
Kasper Aakerlund has left Universal McCann (UM) APAC as confirmed by IPG Mediabrands, effective December 2024. Leigh Terry, CEO of IPG Mediabrands APAC, shared a statement about Aackerlund’s departure: “We are grateful for Kasper’s contributions and dedication during his tenure at IPG Mediabrands and UM. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.” Aakerlund relocated to Singapore to lead UM APAC and has served as president for over six years since August 2018. He joined IPG Mediabrands in 2016 as Hong Kong CEO. Prior to that, he worked at GroupM in Vietnam and Indonesia after working for Dentsu in Europe and moving to Asia in 2014.
McCann Worldgroup Southeast Asia chief strategy officer Charlie Lowe announced that he has left the agency after four years via a post on LinkedIn. Lowe revealed that he will be starting on his next role soon. Prior to joining McCann Worldgroup, he had an over eight-year stint with Ogilvy, and left the agency as worldwide strategy director, working as integrated planning lead on the IBM global brand team.
Monks China has won a new global social media marketing business from China’s smartphone brand Realme. The new partnership marks a milestone in the expansion of Chuhai Monks, Monks China’s new outbound marketing division that intends to aid Chinese brands in going global, founded last December.
Brian Collins has joined digital marketing agency Orange Line in Australia as its new head of growth. Collins will be responsible for identifying growth opportunities, building new business, and enhancing Orange Line’s presence across international markets, especially its global expansion in markets such as the US. With over 14 years of experience and before joining Orange Line, he was head of digital at True Sydney. He served as Ogilvy UK’s head of media before moving to Australia.
Acevector Limited has announced two leadership appointments. Achint Setia will be leading Snapdeal, an Indian ecommerce platform, as its CEO to replace Himanshu Chakrawarti, who will transition to the role of CEO of Stellaro Brands (a subsidiary of Acevector Limited). Chakrawarti has successfully led Snapdeal and Stellaro Brands over the last three years, and he will focus exclusively on driving growth at Stellaro. Setia joins Snapdeal from Zalora Group (Singapore) with nearly 20 years of experience in building new businesses, marketing, strategy, M&A, and technology, spanning ecommerce, media, telco, and government services.
Omnicom Advertising Group (OAG) has appointed Sean Donovan as president, Asia, based in Singapore. Donovan has been president of Asia at TBWA for the past five years. Before that, he was Group CEO of TBWA\ South Africa. He also served as MD and founding partner at OpenCo - The Open Collaboration / TBWA and MD at TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris in South Africa.
Costa Coffee has appointed Natalia Oglu as head of marketing for the APAC region. Oglu was previously head of growth at MENA, based in Dubai. Oglu moved to Costa Coffee in 2020 following its acquisition by Coca-Cola in 2019. She was marketing director RTD tea for Turkey, Caucus, and Central Asia at Coca-Cola. Oglu has helped grow the Costa brand across the Middle East. In her new assignment her focus will be crafting and executing a robust marketing plan to elevate Costa’s brand equity in China while also driving the growth of the retail business.
Qualtrics has been selected by the Jollibee Group to manage its customer experience programme. The multi-year agreement will see Qualtrics consolidating customer feedback across digital and physical retail touchpoints to improve areas like case resolution and provide insights to Jollibee Group’s customer facing teams.
Sara Pereira has joined PIABO Communications as managing director, Asia Pacific, following the South Asia expansion of the agency to lead PIABO’s growth in the region. Pereira was head of technology at APAC at WE Communications before joining PIABO. Prior to that, she was regional lead at Ogilvy.
International, independent branding and design consultancy Lonsdale has announced the promotions of Christine Wiryakartika and Katrina Crescenzo to associate creative director of the Singapore studio. Both will report to Singapore’s executive creative director, Muriel Schildknecht. Wiryakartika joined Lonsdale Asia in 2021 as senior designer. Crescenzo joined the team as senior designer in 2019.
IPG Mediabrands has appointed James Hawkins as chief client officer in a newly established role, aimed at enhancing client experiences in the rapidly changing media landscape. Hawkins, who brings two decades of experience from both media and creative agencies, most recently served as CEO of PHD Asia Pacific for six years, where he focused on advancing the agency's offerings. His previous roles include senior positions within Dentsu's network, such as managing director of Asia Pacific at Dentsu X and chief digital officer at Dentsu Media. He was also a CEO and managing director at DM2. This appointment is part of a broader leadership shift within IPG Mediabrands, which also saw Darren Yuen elevated to CEO of IPG Mediabrands Malaysia in December 2024. Leigh Terry, CEO IPG Mediabrands APAC, said: “IPG Mediabrands remain focused on delivering innovative and exceptional client experiences in a rapidly evolving media landscape. We are excited to deploy James’ in-depth knowledge and transformative experience across the Asia-Pacific region.”
Manas Lahiri joins Havas India as chief growth officer, a newly created role. Lahiri’s most recent assignment was at VML as executive growth partner for India. In his current role, his mandate is to drive growth and innovation across Havas’s 25 companies, working closely with chief strategy officers of the media and creative networks Sanchita Roy and John Thangaraj. He will be based in Mumbai and report to Rana Barua, group CEO Havas India, SEA, and North Asia (Japan and Korea). Lahiri previously worked at Havas India in various capacities, leaving as managing director of Havas Creative India.
SW Strategies, a public relations and strategic communications firm with client interests in Southeast Asia, has announced the appointment of Anh Thu Lai as its first full-time public relations hire in Vietnam. Based out of Ho Chi Minh City, Lai's role will support SW Strategies’ outreach demands in the Vietnamese market for clients while expanding the company’s services to clients across the region. Over the last 12 months, SW Strategies has significantly expanded its presence throughout Southeast Asia, with full-time colleagues now based in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Manila, Bangkok and now in Ho Chi Minh City.
Kien Eng Tan is joining McCann Worldgroup Malaysia as executive chairman immediately. Tan brings over three decades of experience leading major global agencies. Before joining McCann, he served as group CEO of Dentsu Malaysia, a role he held from 2021 until his retirement in 2023. Prior to Dentsu, he held CEO positions at Publicis Groupe and Leo Burnett Malaysia & Singapore. At McCann, Tan will focus on driving innovation, developing new business, and strengthening client relationships to deliver impactful creative solutions, leveraging his extensive experience to enhance the agency's capabilities and competitive position.
Cheelip Ong will now be promoted to the new group CEO of Lion & Lion in January 2025, replacing Fredrik Gumpel, who stepped down after more than five years at the helm, having joined in 2018 as chief commercial officer. Ong, who also currently serves as Lion & Lion's regional CCO, joined the company in 2021 as chief product officer. Before returning to Singapore in 2019, he held CCO titles at Wunderman Thompson Singapore and integrated digital shop 180.AI in China. Prior to those roles, Ong was CCO of Greater China at MullenLowe Group.
Weber Shandwick has promoted Arif Rajab to the role of general manager of Singapore. Rajab has been with the agency for over eight years, starting in 2016 as a manager in integrated digital strategy. He advanced through various roles and was promoted to vice president in 2021, and in 2023, he became senior vice president. Before joining Weber Shandwick, Rajab held several positions at various agencies, including senior vice president at Current Global, account manager at AKA Asia, and senior consultant at Cohn & Wolfe.
