Google Hong Kong GM resigns

HONG KONG - General manager of Google Hong Kong Preston Lau (pictured) has resigned his role at the company "to pursue other opportunities", a statement from Google reads.

Google Hong Kong GM resigns
Google adds that staff will now report to vice-president of sales for Greater China region John Liu.

At the company, Lau oversaw the office’s sales and marketing initiatives and Google has not announced whether it has found a new general manager.

Google’s statement further read that it was Lau’s decision to resign, adding that, “During his time at Google, Preston was instrumental in successfully building strategic partnerships in the region and in leading the Hong Kong operations. Preston has been a valuable part of Google Hong Kong and we are deeply grateful for the wonderful work he has done”.

The announcement comes less than two months after Google announced plans to restructure its South China and Australasia regional sales and marketing operations as part of a cost-cutting measure. The decision called for the reduction of nearly 200 jobs from these departments worldwide.

At the time, sources confirmed that Google’s Hong Kong office was to see the loss of six staff members, and the restructure would see a closer-working relationship between Google’s South China region to improve sales.
