Google Places launches outdoor campaign in Japan

Google Places went full fledged in Japan’s Shibuya district with the initial phase of a mass outdoor campaign.

Google Places launches outdoor campaign in Japan

Google Places officially launched globally last year as part of Google Maps.

The agency behind the project Wieden+Kennedy (W+K) Tokyo said 500 stores in Shibuya signed up for the campaign which saw W+K create a series of outdoor posters and QR codes with the signature Google Places’ pin.

The posters display messages with location tips and attractions specific to Shibuya. One poster leads with the phrase ‘make it in time for a date’ with the search box underneath displaying the keywords ‘Shibuya’ and ‘nail salon’ along with a QR Code.

The second phase involves cooling hand fans in 160 designs around the pins next month.

The project functions as a testimonial for Google Places. W+K also created a video featuring interviews with real storeowners at Shibuya explaining how they benefit from Google Places.

The project, in partnership with non-profit organisation Shibuya 1000, ends on 30 September.
