The campaign, created by Sydney-based content and experiential agency 3rdSpace, is aimed at encouraging Australians to 'e-cycle' old computers and other technology products at a series of events in Sydney (19 July), Melbourne (23 July) and Brisbane (26 July).
Three Samsung Galaxy S4s will be won every hour at each event, where people will be asked to trade a “life item” for a chance to win one of the new phones.
The campaign is running across national radio and scooters for one month. A YouTube video and Facebook Tab launched on 15 July to pre-promote the event in each city.
The initial concept was created by Vodafone’s brand content manager Kieran McIlwain, who worked with Samsung, Planet Ark, Mobile Muster and TES-AMM on ensuring the campaign could deliver on its promise of recycling as much e-waste as possible.
Kim Clarke, Vodafone’s chief marketing officer, said only one in 10 Australian e-waste items were recycled last year, while about 16.8 million TVs, computers, printers and other items were being thrown into landfills.
Vodafone offers an Eco-Rating for mobile phones allowing consumers to make an informed choice about the environmental and ethical performance of many of the phones it sells, she said.
