
The company will also form partnerships with businesses in developed markets looking to expand into high-growth economies, according to a statement from WPP.
Global Counsel was recently founded by Labour Party politician Peter Mandelson, who will act as chairman.
In the statement, WPP chief executive Martin Sorrell said he looked forward to supporting the growth of Global Counsel “into a world class advisory business”.
Separately, WPP has expanded its reach in the healthcare marketing field with the acquisition of US agency Marketing Direct, which will form the foundation of a new healthcare division within group consultancy KBM.
The company, which is based in Missouri, was acquired for an undisclosed sum. The new entity, KBM Group: Health Services, will be headed by Marketing Direct president and chief executive Dennis Barnes.
According to Dennis Kooker, president and chief operating officer of KBM Group’s Enterprise Services unit, Health Services will cater to healthcare industry’s need for a “more holistic approach to multichannel engagement”.
Marketing Direct’s turnover last year totaled nearly US$17 million.
