‘Project Silverline’ will see Singtel distribute refurbished iPhones to seniors under the care of welfare organisations Lions Befrienders and Willing Hearts. The telco will also sponsor talk time and data usage for one year.

Each refurbished handset will be issued with five apps designed to help seniors take care of their health and stay connected.

The apps, designed by SingTel in partnership with Newton Circus and Ogilvy One, include daily medication reminders, a large emergency services icon, a camera, inspirational quotes and updates on current affairs.

Johan Buse, SingTel’s vice-president of consumer marketing, said the aim is to help seniors at Lion Befrienders and Willing Hearts to lead active and fulfilling lives.

“SingTel believes in reaching out to the wider community,” he said. “We seek to equip them with technology and apps that allow them to communicate, access important information and pick up new skills and hobbies.”
