IBM Hong Kong appoints new general manager

HONG KONG - IBM has appointed Tony Tai as the new general manager for its Hong Kong office, succeeding Dominic Tong who has moved into a VP role.

Tai (pictured) succeeds Tong, who has assumed the role of vice-president, systems and technology group, IBM Greater China Group. His new role is effective immediately, just in time for the company's centennial celebrations.

In his new role, Tai will oversee IBM’s business operations and strategic development in Hong Kong.

Tai is a long-serving executive at IBM, beginning there in 1980, and was most recently regional GM, East and Central China. He was based in Shanghai with that role, for the past five years.

Incidentally, IBM will celebrate is centennial on 16 June, marking 100 years in the technology business. Globally, IBM is rolling out a number of initiatives, collectively titled ‘celebration of service’. These efforts focus on encouraging its employees, retirees, families and friends to contribute their expertise to thousands of communities worldwide.

In addition, the company has created films chartering a century of world-changing achievements; and a book entitled, Making the world work better: the ideas that shaped a century and a company, written by journalists Kevin Maney, Steve Hamm and Jeffrey M. O’Brien to be released 16 June. It will also be showcasing an archive of photos and key products.
