Based in Beijing, she will report to Tim Sutton (pictured), Asia-Pacific chairman for CMG.

"Being able to draw on IPG's many multidisciplinary strengths is a strategic advantage for all our agencies and a major value-add for clients," said Sutton. "The market is looking for brand solutions that blur the traditional demarcations between our disciplines and Adrienne has a great track record in making the strategic and tactical connections that others don't see."

Bateup-Carlson will work closely with the senior management of Future Brand, GolinHarris, Jack Morton, Octagon and Weber Shandwick in China, as well as other IPG agencies like McCann Worldgroup and Lowe Worldwide, to drive and support collaborative programmes.

Bateup-Carlson has more than 15 years' experience in brand strategy and business development.

She was previously director for strategy and business development at Imagination Asia in Hong Kong. She has also worked as a senior creative at 4A agencies in Australasia and the UK including Ogilvy & Mather, Leo Burnett, JWT, the Saatchi Group and McCann Erickson.
