Thailand telco True touts pachyderm protection

The company underscores its sustainability commitment in a 6.5-minute film by GreyNJ United.

In 'Footprint', a film by GreyNJ United for Thailand telco True, the simple ethical questions of a child lead his farmer father to tear down an electric fence. In its place, the community installs a True-powered warning system. It uses camera 'traps' equipped with SIM cards to capture the movements of elephants and transmit the info to park rangers, who can then guide the animals away from farming communities.

The film doesn't provide a lot of detail, and True's website doesn't appear to have supporting info. But Ad Nut found a CSR report from True, which explains that as of 2018 the project had helped more than 300 households reduce confrontation with wild elephants near Kuiburi National Park in Prachuab Kiri Khan Province and Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park in Rayong Province. Ad Nut is always happy to find proof that we're seeing a genuine, sustained effort, and not an opportunistic one-off or a mere concept.

The film also touts the fact that True has been listed as a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) from 2017 to 2019.

Just don't go into the film expecting to see any elephants; they only appear in audio form, never on screen. At first Ad Nut found this strange. But upon reflection, if the whole point is letting the majestic creatures roam with minimal interference, then the choice seems appropriate.
