KFC Malaysia launches playlist and film to commemorate dine-in

An innocuous campaign by Naga DDB Tribal welcomes diners back in-store.

We may all have been eating takeaway fried chicken at home during weeks of being stuck at home. But even Ad Nut will admit that there’s nothing like sitting down in a restaurant and biting into crunchy chicken skin straight out of the fryer.

To commemorate the easing of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in Malaysia and the re-opening of restaurants, KFC and Naga DDB Tribal launched an 86-track playlist on Spotify to “serenade customers back to its stores”.

The playlist itself is a bit on-the-nose, featuring songs about yearning for or missing a loved one. Think ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ by Sinead O’Connor or ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’ from the Grease soundtrack. Malaysian, Indonesian and Korean musicians also feature. It’s a little sugary for Ad Nut’s liking, but inoffensive all the same.

The film, meanwhile, adds voiceovers to restaurant fixtures—such as sauce dispensers, food trays and barcode scanners—that say how much they miss having you (the customer) in stores and are longing for your return.

Forgive Ad Nut for going down this thread, but does anyone else think it's modeled after the onset of a cheesy adult film? The music, the voiceovers, the lighting. Sorry kids, Ad Nut would prefer not to taint the image of your childhood fast food joint—but why would one voiceover a baby chair with the words ‘Come on over, baby. Yeah yeah yeah yeah’?
