Dark, gritty police drama touts Taiwan shampoo brand

TAIWAN - Panion & Bf Biotech, through ADK Taiwan, has launched a TVC that accurately mimics the hard-boiled tone of police and gangster movies—until it takes a hilarious turn and the characters are seen shampooing themselves in the middle of a police station.

ADK Taiwan won the Panion & Bf Biotech account earlier this year, and the new TVC is the start of a three-month campaign on local channels and YouTube. Yves Huang (黃逸甫), CEO of ADK Taiwan said summer is the peak marketing season for shampoo products.

The ad focuses on product benefits for consumers who are facing baldness, but does so in an out-of-the-box way, with no swinging heads of glossy hair to be seen.

Borrowing from popular films such as Infernal Affairs, the spot shows a furious young officer who lost a patch of hair while arresting a gangster who was later set free without charges.

“I have been waiting for three years in order to wait for an opportunity to be somebody, not to prove to others that I am great, but to tell others, if I lose something, I must get it back,” the cop says in a voiceover.

When he storms into his boss’s office to demand he be put back on the case, the boss reminds him, ”幫別人出頭前,先顧好自己的頭”, which roughly translate as "before sticking your head to help, you should take care of your head first".
