The company is reportedly looking to raise its profile and build its brand through a TV-based campaign that will present the platform and detail its products and services. The account will be handled from Shanghai.

UnionPay was established in China seven years ago and serves as the mainland’s only inter-bank network. The majority of its credit cards operate in conjunction with Visa or MasterCard and are accepted in 20 countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

A source close to the review noted that credit cards in China were “growing, but a new concept”.

DDB declined to comment when contacted by Media. The agency was recently awarded a project by Volkswagen after a five-way pitch.
