Top 10 most sought after keywords in Hong Kong : Yahoo

HONG KONG – Yahoo has revealed the top ten most sought after keywords by advertisers in Hong Kong, with ‘private tutorial’ and ‘English’ topping the list.

The rest of the list follows in order: mortgage, software, bank, insurance, travel, renovation, interior design and body slimming. Yahoo suggests that this list of keywords reflects the business sectors that are churning profits in the market and current social issues in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong has just ended its Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination and migrated to the 334 academic system. “We saw Hong Kong advertisers’ immediate response to the new academic reform that made ‘private tutorial’ and ‘English’ rise sharply on our Yahoo search marketing chart,” said Alfred Tsoi, VP and managing director at Yahoo Hong Kong.

Keywords like ‘mortgate’, ‘renovations’ and ‘interior design’ are the result of a high demand in the property sector. The Hong Kong Land Registry has recorded a 27 per cent growth in the first six months on agreements for sale and purchase of residential buildings. The agreed value for these property units has also increased 45 per cent.

The reason for ‘software’ and ‘bank’ appearing in the top ten is the recovery of the economy.

According to the Census and Statistics Department, exports have grown 27 per cent during the first half of 2010. Low interest rates and a deposit-rich market environment have been driving personal financial services and bank assurance's growth. Revenue growth in turn allows businesses to refocus on internal IT enhancements such as software for CRM, retail and supply chain systems.
