In her new position, she will be responsible for driving the global shared services centers in more than 40 countries across the Americas, EMEA and Asia-Pacific.
Bessis will report to Jean-Yves Naouri, chief operating officer of Publicis Groupe.
She started her career in 1988 as technical advisor to Roger Fauroux, then French Minister of Industry.
She was charged with M&A in the Pechiney Group and went on to hold a variety of high-ranking positions in international banking and finance in the BNP-Paribas Group (1990-1999) before heading finance and equity investments at the AGF insurance company.
In 2002, she was appointed CEO of Gras Savoye, an organisation she left in 2007 to chair April Group Corporate. She was then named president of the SAFIG Group in early 2009.
On her appointment, Naouri said: "Danièle's experience will allow us to leverage operational synergies in support of our agencies. The shared services organisation forms the backbone of Publicis Groupe, and this makes it a key component of our future strategy and a crucial competitive differentiator."
