Parminder Singh tipped to head Twitter in Southeast Asia

SINGAPORE - Parminder Singh, Google’s former regional director for display solutions, is set to join Twitter to lead business in Southeast Asia, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Twitter declined to comment on the new hire.

At Google for about six years, Singh joined as business head in India and moved to the regional role of online media sales in 2010, becoming regional director of display solutions in 2012. Prior to Google, he worked for IBM as general manager and also held roles at Apple and HCL.

Last year, Twitter rolled out a suite of advertising products across Southeast Asia, a key goal in its international expansion plan. As part of the strategy, products such as promoted tweets, promoted accounts, and promoted trends became available in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines. Previously, the company only made these tools available in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan and Latin America.

In November 2012, Twitter hired Aliza Knox to head its APAC business. Knox ran business and sales for shopping, offers and wallet for Google as managing director of commerce. Around the same time, Twitter appointed Rishi Jaitly as its India market director. Jaitly was previously with the Knight Foundation.

In February 2012, Twitter appointed Shailesh Rao as vice-president for its international operations.

Update, 12 November: Twitter has confirmed Singh's appointment.
