Grace Zhang, Newgate’s Hong Kong partner, will lead the office. Grimmer (pictured) is the former head of regional communications for HSBC and prior to that was China managing partner at Kreab Gavin Anderson; Schlesinger was previously editor-in-chief and global managing editor of Reuters News.

Newgate’s Greater China operations began in January 2013 with the opening of an office in Hong Kong. The agency has shown strong growth across financial, corporate and public affairs practices. It opened in Singapore later that year.

Richard Barton, Newgate’s managing director for Greater China, said in a statement that Zhang had “a strong track record in advising both local and MNC clients”.

He added that Schlesinger and Grimmer had respectively “been at the cutting edge of journalism, communications and business in the PRC. Their insights and advice on business and communications in China are proving to be an invaluable resource for our fast-growing client roster”.
