McCann Worldgroup Japan has appointed Alex Lopez as chief creative officer.

The position is new and will see Lopez work with the ECDs of individual agency brands under McCann Worldgroup to improve the quality of work and promote a more collaborative style, according to the company. Global creative chairman Rob Reilly said in a statement that Japan "is a major focus for us".

Lopez will report to Charles Cadell, president and CEO of McCann Worldgroup Japan and Asia-Pacific president.

Lopez has returned to Tokyo from Los Angeles, where he was chief creative officer and co-founder of Brand Programming Studios, a branded content and distribution company.

He was ECD and founding partner of Suitmen Entertainment in Tokyo between 2007 and 2009. Before that, he held roles at Beacon Communications and Leo Burnett in Tokyo, Paris and Caracas.
