Korea's 2011 ad spend hit all time high at US$8.5 billion - Cheil Worldwide

The 11 per cent jump is due to "improved customer sentiment" and "aggressive marketing campaigns and increased ad spend", said Cheil.

By medium, internet advertising surged 20 per cent while TV and print media grew 11 per cent and 3.3 per cent respectively.

Mobile advertising, a new category which was introduced last year, skyrocketed thanks to the use of smartphones from US$393 to 2010 to US$47,440 in 2011.

The four new general programming TV channels, launched in December 2011, sold US$25,000 in advertising in the first month.

This year, Cheil forecasts an ad spend growth of between 5 per cent and 6.3 per cent.
