The review is a part of a standard biennial procedure.

Incumbent DDB has serviced Indosat since 2003 and holds the creative account until the end of the year. It successfully retained the US$15 million account in August 2008. O&M, McCann Erikson and Octovate were the other agencies participating in the pitch at this time.

Indosat also became one of the first major advertisers in Indonesia to stipulate a pitch fee.

The telecoms company confirmed its impending review process but declined to give further details on its brand and marketing strategy.
In a recent announcement, Indosat recorded a 71.5 per cent drop in its net profit to Rp287.1 billion (US$31.8 million) from Rp1 trillion (US$112 million) in the same period a year earlier despite an increase in operating income.

Meanwhile, the country's largest telecommunications company PT Telkom reported only a slight fall in its net profit to Rp6 trillion (US$672 million) from Rp6.04 trillion (US$716.8 million) and XL Axiata, the third largest, posted a strong growth from Rp706.38 billion (US$79 million) to Rp1.32 trillion (US$ 147.84 million).
