The Beijing office will be the network’s twelfth and will serve existing global clients such as Nokia and Dell, but will also aim to attract business from local clients. Fitch was recently enlisted to design a store for domestic electronics retailer Sundan in Shenzhen's Mix C mall.
The office will be led by Ian Bellhouse, managing director for Southeast Asia and Greater China. It will be staffed by a combination of local and international talent, according to a statement.
Bellhouse described the Chinese retail environment as being “at a critical point in its development” and said the local office would allow Fitch to provide better insight into Chinese consumer preferences.
In Asia, the network also has operations in Singapore and Mumbai and recently opened an office in Delhi.
