China Daily hires ex-SCMP China advertising director Patrick Chan

HONG KONG - China Daily has appointed Patrick Chan as its new advertising director for Asia-Pacific, effective immediately.

Chan (pictured) is reporting to Zhang Yu’an, deputy editor-in-chief of the newspaper.

At China Daily Asia Pacific, Chan's remit includes all advertising sales for the China Daily Asia Weekly, the tabloid newspaper that wa launched last December, China Daily’s Hong Kong, mainland and US editions, as well as the Asia-Pacific online platform which will be launched late this month.

Moroever, Chan will also responsbile for the opening of a new regional sales team in Singapore early next year.

China Daily boasts a number of long-term advertisers in its portfolio, including HSBC, Cathay Pacific, Dragonair and Wheelock, as well as current advertisers like HKTDC and Alitalia.

Chan joins the newspaper with 15 years of advertising sales experiences with newspapers and radio in both China and Hong Kong. Before joining China Daily, Chan worked for the South China Morning Post for a total of seven years, where his last post was China development director handling advertising sales in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. He also had a brief stint with MediaCom Hong Kong where he was responsible for OOH media buying, as well as radio advertising with a local agency in Shanghai.
