Heads of JWT and McCann-Worldgroup both confirmed to Campaign Asia-Pacific that they did not win this pitch, however, we could not reach BBDO Taiwan to confirm the win at press time.
BenQ is a Taiwanese multinational brand that sells and markets consumer electronics, computing and communications devices. The brand name stands for the company's slogan: 'Bringing enjoyment and quality to life' .
A source close to the pitch told Campaign that Saatchi, which had been working on this account for over three years, did not join this pitch.
The pitch was initially for BenQ’s projectors, but as it would be for the agency review, the whole of BenQ’s creative account will be moved to BBDO.
The source, who attended the pitch, explained that the winning agency will be responsible for the creative and production of marketing material content for BenQ's global consumer electronics, including home entertainment projectors, TV, and digital cameras.
According to an article in Taiwan Economics News on 2 October, BenQ, is expected to ship one million projectors this year (200,000 units or 20 per cent more than last year), benefiting contractors such as Qisda, Delta Electronics and Hon Hai Precision Industry.
The article quoted Peter Chen, general manager of the BenQ technology product centre, as saying that the company shipped 800,000 projectors in 2011, with 10.8 per cent market share, and will increase shipments to one million units, with 12.5 per cent market share this year — second only to Japan’s Seiko Epson.
BenQ's head office is located in Taipei and the company operates five branch offices in Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and Africa.
As reported in August, Taiwanese-listed FMCG company Wei Chuan Foods Corp (味全食品) has shifted its creative account from Saatchi & Saatchi Publicis to McCann Worldgroup Taiwan.
