Let's put a smile on that face, says Tourism Fiji

The 'Happy Passports' campaign by Havas shows visitors how hard it is to look sad in a place where 'happiness comes naturally'.

Writing this from the cold, dank far reaches of the woodland, the thought of a blissful end-of-year getaway to somewhere warm and tropical like Fiji would definitely put a smile on Ad Nut's face.

The palm-lined beaches and coral reefs with clear lagoons and the lush tropical landscapes make it seem like a carefree paradise, the sort of place where happiness could absolutely come naturally. And in its new campaign, contagious happiness is what Tourism Fiji is promising visitors will experience from the moment they arrive.

Titled 'Happy Passports', the campaign follows two people who are all too familiar with travellers' typically sombre looking passport photos: Ana, a customs officer at Fiji’s international airport, and Viliame, a local passport photographer. Their lighthearted interactions with both tourists and locals emphasise the struggle to maintain a serious face in such a vibrant and cheerful environment as Fiji.

“It’s well known that everybody hates their passport photos as we’re all made to look sombre and serious which is the complete opposite to how you’ll feel when you leave Fiji,” said Sebastian Vizor, executive creative director at Havas Host, Sydney. “After just a few days in Fiji amongst the warmth of the people, the rich cultural or the incredible landscape, we noticed people found it almost impossible not to be happy.”

Tourism Fiji CMO Srishti Narayan said, “Fiji’s warmth and playfulness is infectiousit’s a feeling that visitors often say stays with them after they leave. The campaign is a fun reminder that Fiji isn’t just about the stunning scenery—it’s about the joy and warmth you feel from our people and traditions, and the authentic experiences you can have here. We hope it inspires traveller’s from around the world to come and experience it for themselves.”

Tourism Fiji aims to showcase that a visit to its stunning tropical islands extends far beyond just serene beaches. Fiji is a versatile destination catering to all types of travellers, where they can discover why it's the type of destination to bring a smile to every visitor.

Bringing a smile to every visitor is a tall order, but by the looks of Fiji's outstanding natural beauty, it's certainly not impossible.
