GLOBAL – Although not many CEOs are keen on communicating publically on social media, it seems that half are communicating with their employees through company intranets, finds a report by Weber Shandwick (WS). This report, The Social CEO: Executives Tell All, was based on an online survey of 630 senior professionals from 10 countries around the world, including emerging and developed markets. The report highlights the advantages more social CEOs have over their unsocial counterparts.

Go-Globe, an online web applications design and development firm, has created an infographic that covers statistics and facts about all the major social media platforms that China's 597 million social networking users are active on -- namely Qzone, Tencent Weibo, Sina Weibo, Wechat, Pengyou, 51.com, Renren, Douban, Kaixin001, Jiayuan.

The popular WeChat application from Tencent hit the 200 million user mark in September. Rival Sina Weibo needed 22 months to gain the same number of microblog users after its August 2009 launch, while WeChat took 20 months since its January 2011 launch. Both platforms have been catering to brands with social-media marketing solutions; Nike and Starbucks were among the first to tap WeChat. CIC has created an infographic comparing the two.
DATA POINTS: Olympics social-media infographic
Waggener Edstrom created this infographic (presented in English and Chinese) discussing Weibo and Twitter mentions of the Olympics sponsors before, during and after the London games. As the results underscore, the most significant spikes in social-media volume occur around negative posts. Therefore brands "must be prepared to address, engage and participate in the conversation to mitigate negative sentiment", according to the agency.
