RockYou partners with Aktiv in Hong Kong

HONG KONG - Content distributor RockYou has appointed Aktiv Digital as its exclusive media sales partner in Hong Kong.

RockYou, which creates applications for social networking sites (SNS) such as Facebook, MySpace, hi5 and Bebo, has awarded Akitv the exclusive rights to market and sell the its advertising traffic in Hong Kong, where it claims 1.34 million monthly unique users.

“Brands globally are hungry for a strong and innovative social presence and we at RockYou are excited about the potential of Hong Kong, where social media adoption, particularly with regards to Facebook, is rapidly growing,” said Randall Lloyd, vice-president of RockYou’s ad network sales.

According to the company, RockYou offers advertising products such as banners, skins and video ads for clients looking to advertise on SNS. It has additionally made applications such as Zoo World, Likeness, HugMe, SuperPets and Stickers.

The California-based company made headlines in December when a hacker broke into the RockYou’s database and obtained the RockYou credentials of all users, totaling more than 32.6 million, then posted them online.

RockYou claims 213 million monthly users worldwide and 15 billion global impressions. Its funding partners include Sequoia Capital, SK Telecom Ventures and SoftBank.

The company adds to Aktiv's regional client roster, which includes Nike, Nokia, HP, Emirates, MasterCard, HSBC, Air Asia and StarHub.

The win comes weeks after Aktiv also named former Chris Pattinson to the new role of head of sales for Asia-Pacific.

Pattinson was previously director at MTV Asia and Viacom Brand Solutions. Prior to that role, he was the sales manager of Yahoo Southeast Asia, and has worked at Star TV and ESPN Star Sports.
