Jakubowski's last day was on Friday 13 January, though he remains technically contracted to Ogilvy on a three-month "gardening-leave" arrangement. Recruited from the US, he says he is keen to stay on in Asia, preferably from his current Singapore base.

He was hired in February last year, in to what was considered one of the biggest digital jobs in Asia-Pacific at the time. It completed a regional management team that also consisted of Chris Reitermann, president of OgilvyOne Greater China; Susana Tsui, regional president of Neo@Ogilvy; Barney Loehnis, OgilvyOne's regional head of digital; Peter Moss, regional vice-president of consumer experience; Lucy McCabe, vice-president of consulting services, and Supavadee Tantiyanon who  assumed a regional consulting role in December 2010.

Jakubowski says he was told his role would not be refilled.

Previously with AKQA, as group creative director, Jakubowski has received numerous awards over his career. These include an Academy Award (best visual effects), Cyber Lions, CLIOs, and AD&D prizes.

He says he is now looking to stay on in Asia and continue working in one of the world's most exciting creative fields. "The reason I accepted Ogilvy's offer to run Asia-Pacific was the intention to harness the incredible growth and creativity in the region," he told Campaign. "Asia is developing at a very rapid rate and using technologies that surpass the West. For a creative, this is really exciting."
