Qatar Airways appoints SinoTech Group for digital branding in China

BEIJING - Qatar Airways has tasked digital marketing firm SinoTech Group with building its brand and managing its online marketing promotions across China.

SinoTech Group additionally looks to drive the airline’s online bookings and promote destinations from the Qatar Airways’ flight network.

Over the past five years, the Doha-based airline has expanded to operate 23 flights a week out of China – from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong – and nearly 90 destinations across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and North America.

Of the appointment, Qatar Airways’ manager of Greater China Woo Yew Seong, said: “We are committed to the Chinese market and have taken a strategic decision to invest a greater proportion of our marketing resources into the digital spectrum.”

The news comes a day after SinoTech Group announced that Paul McNeill, former CEO of MPG Greater China, has joined the company as vice-president of alliances and partnerships.

McNeill has been in Asia-Pacific’s marketing industry for 13 years in executive roles at MPG and Carat, and was additionally founder of XS-Media.

In June 2009, Havas Media named former Carat China CEO Thomas Wong as its CEO in Greater China to replace McNeill, who reportedly left the agency to "pursue his interests in studying international policy”.
