Petron shortlists eight for creative review in the Philippines

MANILA - Petron, the Philippines' largest oil and marketing company, has shortlisted eight agencies including BBDO Guerrero, Blackpencil, DDB, McCann, Publicis JimenezBasic and incumbents Leo Burnett, Lowe and Ace Saatchi & Saatchi for its latest creative review.

Petron shortlists eight for creative review in the Philippines
The oil firm had started securing credentials from agencies in November 2008 to pit the shortlisted agencies against its current roster for a campaign to boost its corporate image in the downturn.

Leo Burnett is believed to hold the oil firm’s cars and LPG business. Saatchi handles its corporate and service stations while Lowe is tasked with its lubricants business.

Out of the eight, three agencies could make the next shortlist or a winner may be picked by the end of January, according to sources close the pitch.

The Filipino oil giant had handed its estimated US$10 million media account to Starcom in July last year.

San Miguel, one of the country’s leading F&B conglomerates, had also recently acquired an option to buy a majority of Petron, as the F&B giant looks to grow beyond its core business of beer, beverages, dairy products and food processing.
