Nickelodeon Asia launches ChinaToon

BEIJING - Nickelodeon has announced that it will launch ChinaToon, a one-hour slot dedicated to showcasing original Chinese animation, to be broadcast in 13 territories across Asia.

Debuting on 5 July on Nickelodeon Asia, ChinaToon will premiere with two animation series including Creative Power Entertaining’s Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf, and Zhejiang Zhongnan Group Animation Video’s Magic Wonderland. 

Indra Suharjono, executive vice-president and managing director for MTV Networks Southeast Asia and Greater China, said: “Chinese animation is gaining immense popularity and critical recognition internationally. ChinaToon will be the vehicle to bring this unique animation genre to a wider audience.” 

Mei Yan, managing director of MTV Networks China and chief representative of Viacom Asia in China, added that it is important to provide a “springboard to launch” Chinese-produced animation “into the international marketplace”. 

Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf are an animated comedy series created for audiences aged from four to nine years, while Magic Wonderland is an action adventure targeting kids aged between five and 12.
