MEC, OMD, Starcom and Zenith pitch for Mars-Wrigley's US$120 million China media account

BEIJING - OMD, MEC, Starcom and Zenith Media are believed to have been invited to pitch for Mars-Wrigley's media business in China, which will take place at the end of May in Beijing.

It is the biggest media pitch in China so far in 2010. The winner will take control of Mars-Wrigley’s US$120 million media account in China.

It is understood the pitch is a natural review to consolidate media buying duties for the client following Mars' acquisition of Wrigley in the US in August 2008.

In March 2009, Mars and Wrigley launched a joint media pitch in the US, which Starcom MediaVest won. In September 2009, ZenithOptimedia also won the media buying account for Mars-Wrigley in the UK and Spain.

In April 2009, ZenithOptimedia Beijing scooped the Mars China's media account after pitching against the incumbent Mediacom, plus MEC, OMD and MediaVest.

MEC Guangzhou is the current media agency for Wrigley's China media account. Last Feburary, the client also handed its media business in Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia to MEC.
