MDA, Microsoft, Nokia and SingTel join FutureMobile network

SINGAPORE - The Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) has roped in major mobile players including SingTel, Nokia, Microsoft, MOZAT, Zingmobile, Qualcomm and Huawei to form a FutureMobile partner network to develop innovation and on-the-move content for mobile devices.

MDA, Microsoft, Nokia and SingTel join FutureMobile network
The network is seeking innovative content and application proposals focusing on games, mobile lifestyle, healthcare and the transient market that have the potential to be deployed on the partner network’s platforms. Selected proposals will be able to leverage a 300 million-strong user base and access to markets worldwide.

Dr Christopher Chia, CEO of the MDA, said: “We are already a society with one of the highest mobile penetration rates worldwide. Therefore, Singapore companies have an opportunity to extend their media offerings and capabilities to develop on-the-move media services and applications to reach out to a wider audience base.”

Michael Yap, director, interactive media and games at the MDA added: “Like the FutureTV initiative, MDA hopes that the FutureMobile partner network can also bring together the best-of-breed offerings, and to allow industry players to leverage on one another’s customer base, market access, and partners.”

Lai Chang Ying, VP of consumer products of SingTel, said that developers can tap into the telco’s expertise and large regional market base of 249 million customers to accelerate the deployment of applications while optimising development costs.

She added that developers could also look toward the upcoming SingTel App Zone to launch applications across a range of devices.

The FutureMobile initiative is another major initiative of the recently launched media blueprint Singapore Media Fusion Plan in the city-state, and follows the launch of the FutureTV in June.
