M1 enters broadband sector in Singapore

SINGAPORE - MobileOne has intensified competition in Singapore's telecommunications market by moving into the home fixed broadband sector, with new services offering broadband speeds of up to 100mbps.

M1 enters broadband sector in Singapore

The company has offered only mobile broadband services since 2006, and will now challenge SingTel’s and StarHub’s dominance of home broadband with four cut-price plans boasting unlimited data plans at varying internet speeds.

"M1 is repositioning itself for the future as it develops new businesses anchored by our core competencies," said Neil Montefiore (pictured), CEO of M1.

"The launch of M1 Fixed Broadband is an important step in our planned transformation from a single-play mobile operator to a dynamic multi-play operator with interests in both the mobile and fixed sectors."

"The proliferation of the internet and the increasing demand for internet bandwidth also make this an opportune entry into the fixed broadband market."

Broadband penetration in Singapore is now 82.5 per cent of households.
