HBO builds offer for subscribers in Asia

HBO Asia has launched HBO Pak, a new multi-pack of channels touted as the first such offering of its kind in the region.

HBO Pak consists of three additional channels - Signature, Hits and Family - which supplement the main HBO channel. "This is part of our strategy in Asia to give our viewers more choice, value and variety," said Caroline Wong, senior director of marketing at HBO Asia. "The channels are meant to complement each other and cannot be bought a la carte."

Signature features HBO originals such as Sopranos and Curb Your Enthusiasm. HBO original movies will premiere on this channel before the main HBO channel, while Hits rotates seven blockbusters each week, and aims to give flexible scheduling for busy executives. Meanwhile, Family offers wholesome fare without "unexpected violence or nudity".

In terms of pricing, exisiting HBO viewers must pay a minimum amount to upgrade to all three channels, although configurations may vary according to region. In Singapore, where HBO Pak launches at the end of this month, subscribers must add S$4 (US$2.4) to receive the additional channels.
