Fox launches premium movie channel and on-demand online player

HONG KONG – Next January, Fox International Channels (FIC) will be launching a new pay-TV channel in Asia, Fox Movies Premium (FMP) and an online pay-TV streaming platform, Fox Movies Premium Play.

Fox launches premium movie channel and on-demand online player

Fox Movies Premium will replace Star Movies in the Hong Kong and Southeast Asia markets while the Star Movies brand will continue in Taiwan and The Philippines.

The new TV channel will screen movies, television series, major live events and leading documentaries aiming to break exclusive content to the market.

The online platform, Asia’s first, will be available to FMP subscribers and will allow users to watch content on-demand via PC. FIC aims to make the player available across tablets and smartphones in the near future.

A few days after content has screened on TV, it will be made available on the player’s online library for a month. Subscribers can then view the content online whenever they choose.

The player was recently launched in Latin America and has drawn almost twice the time spent per average viewing session as on TV. Channel subscriptions have also increased since the launch of the player.

The player is intended to allow users to watch what they want when they want it, said Zubin Gandevia, COO, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, FIC.  “It will break the chains that used to tie us to our living room televisions,” he said.
