“As we continue to work with and invest heavily in emerging markets, we believe it is important to have a strong representative voice for those markets in a global position within Edelman,” said Edelman. “We want to not only be present in these markets, but also to be able to drive conversations around opportunities - to understand, advise and engage our clients on their presence in these areas.”
Pereira will also become non-executive chairman for India, reporting to Alan VanderMolen, president of Edelman Asia-Pacific. In this role, he will represent the firm in interactions with the Indian business community and serve as a senior advisor to Edelman India on macro business issues in the market.
Both appointments take effect from 1 July.
In addition, Robert Holdheim will take on the role of country head for India from 1 July. As a veteran of Edelman Frankfurt and London and current head of Edelman New York’s corporate communications group, Holdheim will bring a global perspective to its business and clients in India
“With his experience in Europe and North America, as well as his practice experience in Corporate and Technology, Rob is the perfect person to lead our business in India through its next phase of growth,” said VanderMolen. “His appointment further underscores the firm’s confidence in emerging Asian markets broadly, and India specifically.”
Edelman established a presence in India October 2004. Holdheim will be based in New Delhi.
