Under the terms of agreement, Celestial Movies, the leading distributed Chinese movie channel in Asia, will broadcast all Media Asia’s theatrical productions over the next five years via its service in Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia, covering all pay-TV rights from cable and satellite to on-demand plus Internet and mobile.

The output agreement is by far the biggest deal made between the two companies since the commencement of their partnership in 2004.

Ross Pollack, chief executive officer of Celestial Pictures said: “This deal exemplifies our commitment to bring our subscribers the very best in Chinese cinema. Our output deal with Media Asia ensures a steady stream of Chinese blockbusters to the channel. We also look forward to extending our alliance with more producers of Asian hit movies.”

Media Asia has produced award winning Chinese films including City of Life and Death, The Warlords, The Banquet, Exiled, Initial D and the Infernal Affairs trilogy.

Some of Media Asia’s upcoming productions to be showcased on Celestial Movies include The Legend of Chen Zhen, Fire of Conscience and Reign of Assassins.

This month, Andy Chang, former Asia vice-president of marketing at Sony Pictures Television, moved to Celestial Pictures as senior vice-president of marketing.
