The US$4.5 million campaign is fronted by entrepreneur Glen Gibbons.
Fans can visit V-rentals.com and enter the barcode from their can of V for the chance to trial the experiences billed to "make the everyday more awesome for them and their friends". The competition, which requires entrants to explain why they should be selected for a rental in no more than 57 words, runs until 8 September with the prizes expected to be used by Christmas.
Among the experiences hand picked by Gibbons are a monkey butler serving chips and V, a mini-you, a unicorn chauffeur, a fixie farthing, a pimped-out jacuzzi truck and bodybuilder removalists.
A personal heralder announcing your arrival and a puppy wingman making you 'more attractive to the ladies' are some of the new experiences due to be rolled out as they become available.
The campaign consists of a 60-second TVC that launched on Sunday across Australia, followed by four 15-second TVCs. Director Jim Hosking, represented in Australia by Prodigy, said he was attracted to the "juicy" main character and the script's chaotic energy.
“It was clear the agency wanted something a bit ‘wonky’, and wonky is a place where I can relax and make myself exceptionally comfortable,” he said. “The biggest challenge was shooting in a freezing cold horse pavilion with an above-average quotient of extremely persistent flies. Getting a donkey onto a gold plinth is clearly a distressing business and one not to be entertained on a daily basis.”
A series of webisodes documenting Gibbon's experiences running V Rentals will also be released online over the next six months. Further campaign elements include point-of-sale, Facebook activity and online display ads. Click here for campaign images.
Speaking of the campaign, Frucor Australia marketing director, Cameron Davidson, said, “You have to go beyond advertising and create experiences and memories that brings your product and brand promise to life. If you’re a brand that’s promising high energy, then your campaign has to deliver on that energy.”
