Abubakar will oversee strategic media relations for clients and will direct the public relations firm’s client-service teams. She brings 18 years of experience in corporate communications, consumer brands, healthcare, internal communications and Islamic finance.

Her experiences include in-house roles at the Jakarta representative office of UBS, and she was also a contributor to the Indonesian news desk of SBS Radio Australia.

Based in Jakarta, Abubakar will report to Djohansyah Saleh, head of operations for Weber Shandwick Indonesia.

Saleh said: “Indonesia is an incredibly dynamic market and represents an important growth zone for Southeast Asia.”

“It is important that we add senior talent such as Dian who can ensure the high-level consultancy we provide continues to expand in line with our growing reach, services and offerings.”

Abukar’s appointment follows a flurry of other hires for Weber Shandwick. In June the agency promoted Lalana Santos to the post of managing director of Weber Shandwick Thailand. In April it appointed Rozani Jainudeen as its general manager in Malaysia.
