Wall Street Journal launches China-focused news site

BEIJING - The Wall Street Journal has replaced its China Journal blog with a new digital domain, the China Real Time Report, to serve as a China-focused news and discussion site for the News Corp publication.

The site features analysis pieces from the Wall Street Journal’s network of reporters and researchers based in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. It allows audience feedback in the areas of Chinese business, finance, law, policy, economics and culture.

“Our goal is to bring together in one place the smartest reporting and thinking about China today,” said Andrew Browne, China Editor of the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires. “For both experienced China-watchers, and anyone trying to figure out what the rise of China means for the world, China Real Time Report will be the place to go and join the conversation.”

The news comes as the Wall Street Journal looks to capitalise on its growing popularity across digital platforms. Earlier this month, WSJ.com announced the induction of an almost US$600 a year Wall Street Journal Professional Edition, and last month, News Corp.’s owner Rupert Murdoch said he would soon begin charging people to read the Wall Street Journal on mobile phones. In August, the Journal announced its intention to launch a social network to rival LinkedIn, marking its foray into the social networking realm.

In the region, the Wall Street Journal has made other digital inroads this year, such as launching a Japanese-language site and extending its reach in India.
