Tudou.com departs AdSense for Baidu Union

SHANGHAI - Chinese video-sharing site Tudou.com has departed Google's advertising network AdSense in favour of Baidu's network, Baidu Union.

Tudou.com departs AdSense for Baidu Union
According to local reports, Tudou shifted advertising networks to better position itself in the domestic market, in which Baidu claims nearly 70 per cent search-market share.

Tudou’s CEO Gary Wang (pictured) said that the site had additionally signed a search partnership with Baidu six months ago, allowing the search engine to crawl and directly list links to Tudou on its results pages. Tudou does not direct its search results to other engines, including Google.

“When Tudou users want to perform general searches, other than video, for items outside the Tudou.com domain, they will be directed to outside search engines. We did it with Google before and with Baidu starting about six months ago,” Wang said, adding that the arrangement was “purely driven by our user preferences, especially when it comes to entertainment-oriented searches”.
