Nissin | The New Cup Noodles | Hong Kong

Nissin Cup Noodles, which positions itself as the originator of instant noodles, has upgraded its packaging design and relaunched in Hong Kong through an integrated marketing push.

Disposable cups always make environment lovers frown, but the new Cup Noodle’s packaging uses less Styrofoam and consists mainly of paper.

Nissin has invited Hong Kong singer Leo Ku as the ambassador to make the brand appeal to the youth segment.

Aside from the regular 30 second TV commercial and print work, ad agency Asatsu-DK (ADK) Hong Kong is placing massive cup noodles in a subway station. To coincide with the now microwavable packaging design, ADK has also adorned a local tram, also known as the Ding Ding, with cup noodles and steaming mechanics. (Hong Kong locals call the microwave a ‘ding’, an onomatopoeia for the sound it makes.)

Nissin awarded its creative business to ADK last November. A second phase to the campaign will launch in November with two new TV ads and more advertorial print executions.
