The show was preceded by a major marketing communications campaign, including an interactive element in which fans voted for their favourite stars via SMS or a special MTV website.

The pan-regional awards - the biggest such show in Asia - lived up to its hype, delivering a night of surprises, including Mariah Carey, who turned up to collect a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Co-hosted by Vanness Wu of Taiwanese superstar band F4 fame and internationally-renowned singer/songwriter Michelle Branch, the awards were supported by HP, Philips and Toyota Motor Corporation as official partner sponsors.

Club Med was the associate sponsor for the Korean, Malaysian, Singapore and Thai markets.
