Maxis ties up with three dailies to give free news portal access
The news was announced today in a joint statement by the three leading dailies, Maxis and the media agency Aegis Media. The service was launched to coincide with Merdeka or the Malaysian Independence day today.

This development will give the readers of three major dailies a chance of accessing the mobile news portals without bearing any costs. Most users in Malaysia currently subscribe to short messaging service (SMS) news alerts from news dailies in the country.

The aim of this collaboration is to get more Malaysians to access these newpapers on their mobile.

According to a joint statement relased by partners the collaboration took months of planning and it is the first time that the three dailies of different languages have tied up with a telco in a activity of this magnitude.

Maxis will start charging a small fees for this service after October 31.

Matthew Willsher, chief marketing officer of Maxis said: “This partnership between Maxis and leading media partners in the country will enable mobile data usage to become even more ubiquitous among Malaysians."

Newspapers in Malaysia are on a drive to educate people on the best way to access news online and in the mobile space.
