Sigurdsson (pictured) will be based in Hong Kong, and will be responsible for driving digital strategy and innovation across Asia-Pacific with a focus on Japan, China and Korea. He will report to Amar Urhekar, president Japan and EVP Asia-Pacific, McCann Healthcare WorldWide.
"Marcus is a much awaited and welcome addition to the team and I am confident he will help us take our offer to an unprecedented new level in healthcare communications," said Urhekar.
Most recently, Sigurdsson was digital engagement director at McCann Erickson's Cathay Pacific Central Team, where he drove the global digital and social media strategy for the airline.
Hailing from Sweden, Sigurdsson arrived in Shanghai in 1999 and has since worked on digital strategy for brands such as Guinness, Cirque Du Soliel and Reebok, having led the digital teams at OgilvyOne and Neo@Ogilvy.
"Healthcare is going through a transformation where digital is becoming the connective tissue between pharmaceuticals, physicians and consumers," Sigurdsson said on his appointment. "The opportunity to work with the McCann Healthcare Worldwide APAC team in driving digital in healthcare is very exciting."
