The initiative centres around a film entitled Message from Japan. It features tourism ambassadors Arashi (a Japanese boy band) and is designed to reassure potential visitors that it is now safe to travel to the country.
The group’s members thank the world for supporting Japan throughout the crisis. The video then features scenes from a number of destinations including Tokyo, Kyoto, Hokkaido, Aomori, Okinawa and Kagoshima. It will be aired in 133 countries and regions.
The Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO) has estimated that the number of foreign tourists fell nearly 63 per cent year-on-year in May.
