Hill & Knowlton named AOR of UN Climate Change Conference

GLOBAL - Hill & Knowlton has been named the communications partner for the United Nations Climate Change Conference, to be held in December in Copenhagen.

Hill & Knowlton named AOR of UN Climate Change Conference
As the conference's official media sponsor, H&K is responsible for supporting a campaign to encourage climate-conscious behaviour and educate international and local deligates and audiences on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The agency was officially appointed by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"We want to get across the message that even major conferences like this can be conducted in an eco-friendly manner, especially concerning GHG emissions," said Svend Olling, head of department of the conference’s logistics at the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "We are happy that we have found a partner that has extensive knowledge of global campaigning and handling of international media relations."

The UN Climate Change Conference aims to facilitate talks between political leaders and government officials from 192 countries to agree on a framework to combat climate change, replacing the Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012.

With the conference's launch date of 7 December drawing closer, campaigns supporting the social cause have emerged. Earlier this month, Havas Worldwide launched its 'Tck tck tck: time for climate justice' campaign – which features more than 60 international celebrities re-recording Midnight Oil’s 1987 tune 'Beds are burning' – as the soundtrack to the Climate Justice movement.

Backed by Kofi Annan, president of the Global Humanitarian Forum and former secretary-general of the United Nations, the campaign was launched to precede the UN’s Climate Change Conference.
