Hennessy turns barhopping into winning game with new smartphone app

The iconic cognac brand Hennessy has come up with a new smartphone app for their V.S.O.P drinkers, Hennessy Mix, that combines location based services (LBS) and augmented reality for the first time for mobile phones.

Hennessy turns barhopping into winning game with new smartphone app

Designed by Cherrypicks and published by Moët Hennessy Diageo Hong Kong, the app is available on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and other smartphones using the Android platform.

The app allows Hennessy fans to take AR photos using five different effects interpreted from 'Hennessy Mix', the five unique mixed drinks the brand is actively promoting, by aesthetically incorporating these elements to the AR phototaking experiences, users are subtly reminded of the enjoyment of Hennessy V.S.O.P.

Consumers are also encouraged to try different creative ideas and send them off to the Hennessy Artistry fan page on Facebook, which will earn them stamps. The top three stamp collectors each week will win prizes.

To earn even more stamps, customers can go to participating bars and point their cameras at 'Hennessy Mix coasters', which are tailor-made for this campaign. This prompts an uber-cool 3D animation to appear on their screens. Meanwhile the app loads the bars' geo data and allow people to virtually check in.

The campaign is running for eight weeks and is scheduled to end on 14 Feb 2011.
