French brands brace for boycott in China

SHANGHAI - A boycott of French supermarket chain Carrefour in mainland China, in response to protests surrounding the Olympic Torch Relay, is expected to come to a head on May 1st to coincide with International Workers' Day.

French brands brace for boycott in China
Text messages and blog posts urging a boycott of Carrefour have been mounting as a counter statement to global protests targeting the Olympic Torch Relay, which were particularly intense in Paris, the French capital.

Carrefour will be single out both because it is a French company, in the wake of the disastrous interaction between wheelchair bound, one-legged fencer Jin Jing and a pro-Tibet protester, and because LVMH, one of its major shareholders, is believed to have donated extensively to the Dalai Lama.

The Body Shop is also rumored to be targeted because of its outspoken support for Tibet.
