Former GroupM Interaction head Meg Wu on her new role at PPS

SHANGHAI - Meg Wu, former managing director of GroupM Interaction, has joined PPStream (PPS) as chief marketing officer, based in Shanghai.

Former GroupM Interaction head Meg Wu on her new role at PPS

In an interview with Campaign, she said she would focus on building the brand image of the video streaming site in her new job.

Although PPS has become one of the leaders in the Chinese peer-to-peer video streaming market, Wu said the company has been very low key over the past years.

The competition among China's video sites is already white-hot. Major video-sharing websites in China have either gone public or are in discussions to do so. In December, Youku launched its US$203 million IPO on Nasdaq.

"In the past if you had a good product it was enough. But now we have to pay more attention to brand building and services," she said.

Wu is a veteran in digital media. During her two years at GroupM Interaction, the company grew from a team of one to its current staff of 100. Its digital trading volume increased three-fold since 2008.

Meg was also instrumental in the creation of a number of units under GMI, including GroupM Search and GroupM Mobile Marketing. She left GroupM with a legacy which the company calls "a team of exceptional digital talent across our agencies and a top class digital trading team in China".

One of the challenges she expects at PPS, Wu said, is the shift in her new role.

"I have been working with agencies for years, but I have never been with any media outlets," she said, "How to build a media brand - that would be a challenge for me."
