Bates141 bags Merck business in Indonesia

JAKARTA - Global pharmaceutical firm Merck has appointed Bates141 for its estimated US$2 million creative business in Indonesia to develop communications for its portfolio of products in 2009.

The WPP firm bagged the account following strategy and creative presentations and has been tasked with repositioning vitamin supplements including Neurobion and Sangobion, which are popular over the counter brands, to a wider audience in Indonesia.

Other products in Bates’s remit include Becombion and Seven Seas. Merck had previously worked with DDB.

There are currently 29 international pharmaceutical companies marketing their products in Indonesia’s $2 billion pharmaceutical industry. Indonesian authorities have also recently imposed a ruling that requires foreign drug companies to establish local production facilities.
